Thermoset composites are made by combining polymers with reinforcing fibers, such as glass or fabric, to create materials that excel in applications requiring high heat resistance, chemical durability, and exceptional strength.

Learn more about our thermoset composite manufacturing process and discover how we can collaborate with your company to deliver the right capabilities.

How our thermoset machining process works

Once thermoset materials are cured and hardened, they retain their form permanently and cannot be re-melted or reformed.

The thermoset manufacturing process involves heating the fibers and polymers until they reach a liquid state, at which point they are molded into the desired shape and allowed to cool. During the cooling process, the polymers undergo crosslinking, curing the material and creating an irreversible chemical bond.

Due to their unique chemical structure, thermoset materials cannot be softened, warped, or melted once they have fully cured.

Benefits of thermoset machining

Thermoset plastics offer a variety of advantages, making them an excellent choice for industries that require durable, high-performance materials. Below are some of the key benefits:

Superior Durability: Once cured, thermoset plastics are highly durable and resistant to wear, heat, chemicals, and other harsh environmental factors. This makes them ideal for long-lasting applications in industries like automotive, aerospace, and electronics.

Enhanced Heat Resistance: Thermoset materials have high thermal stability, meaning they can withstand elevated temperatures without deforming or losing their structural integrity. This property makes them perfect for applications involving high heat, such as electrical insulation and engine components.

Electrical Insulation: Many thermoset plastics offer excellent electrical insulating properties, making them a preferred choice for electrical components like circuit boards, connectors, and insulators.

Dimensional Stability: Thermoset materials retain their shape and strength over time, even when exposed to extreme conditions. This makes them an excellent choice for precision parts and components that require tight tolerances.

Design Flexibility: With a wide range of thermoset materials available, manufacturers can select the most suitable plastic based on the specific mechanical, thermal, or chemical requirements of a given project. This provides significant design flexibility and ensures that the material properties are perfectly matched to the application.

Cost-Effectiveness: Despite their high performance, thermoset plastics are often cost-effective, offering great value for both low- and high-volume production runs. Their ability to be molded into complex shapes also reduces the need for additional machining processes, further enhancing cost savings.

By incorporating thermoset plastics into your projects, you can achieve superior performance while maintaining a balance between cost-effectiveness and functionality.
