Always on the forefront of innovation and new technologies, today Aztec specializes in several complex, close tolerance, cutting edge manufacturing processes governed by ISO 9001; 2015 and AS 9100 Quality Certifications and ITAR Part 122 Registered.

Aztecs Plastic Injection Molding processes include Conventional Custom Molding, Decorative and Cosmetic Molding, Miniature Molding, Over-Molding and Insert Molding.

These specialty Molding processes, along with Aztec Plastic’s Contract Manufacturing and Assembly, Secondary Operations, Part Product Machining, Packaging and Kitting capabilities offer Original Equipment Manufacturers and Companies many options in which to design and manufacture their products and programs to give them a competitive edge and advantage in the global market place.

Each of our specialty molding operations provides improved product quality, reliability, durability, reduced cost, design flexibility and styling.

Plastic Injection Over-Molding

Two-Shot Over-Molding is a specialty process which manufactures’ two or more materials and / or colors within the same Product or Part. In technical terms this means multiple materials are injected at two different points or more within the Injection Mold to create one final Part. This process can be utilized across singular or multiple cavities within the Injection Molding process.

The advantages of Two-Shot Molding include expanded / creative Part Design capabilities, Part or Product durability, flexibility in the manufacture of multi-component parts, Aesthetic and Decorative options, Textures and Alternative Material selection.

The two-shot process also lends itself to specialty items or products that can eliminate costly secondary processes or assembly. Some examples are:

  • Gaskets, Seals or Sealing mechanisms
  • Soft-Touch Products
  • Functional Parts
  • Acoustic Dampening Elements
  • Vibration Absorbing Products
  • Decorative or Advanced Aesthetics
  • Permanent Descriptions or Identifications
  • Enclosure of Multi-Components Products

Insert Molding

Insert Molding is a means of manufacturing that helps to minimize the cost of End-Use Products and Sub-Assemblies by reducing or eliminating secondary assembly operations and / or added-value labor costs by the introduction of components into the Plastic Molding process.

This specialized process with Injection Molding combines plastic resin with such materials as metal stampings, electro-mechanical parts, multi-components, machined metal parts, filters, gaskets, hardware and other unique components into a single viable product without the use of secondary operations or costly assembly.

Our Custom Insert Molding Services and Capabilities include:

  • Automated, Semi-Automated and / or Manual Component Insertion
  • Post Molding Secondary Operations for electrical testing, machining, bonding, etc.
  • Post Manufacturing Quality Inspection Capabilities
  • Design of Manufacturability for multi-components
  • Custom Designed Tooling and Fixturing
  • Advanced materials selection

It should be recognized that Aztec Plastic’s Insert Molding capabilities and services can provide distinct advantages for Customers’ products by offering increased reliability, durability, consistency, rigidity or strength, design flexibility and reduced labor or assembly costs.

Decorative and Cosmetic Molding

In addition to our other Injection Molding processes, Aztec specializes in the sensitive area of Decorative and Cosmetic Molding.

Decorative Molding has been a growing industry requirement within the Plastics Industry for years and Aztec Plastic has been at its forefront. The Decorative Molding Process simply explained, is a product and or program that require a need for extremely high aesthetics or visually appealing external features and / or surfaces to products.

The decorative features of a product can include several decorative processes such as visual aesthetics, special textures, Lens quality requirements, scratch free surfaces, unique colors or materials, packaging, Two-Shot Over-Molded processes with different materials, colors or textures.

In many instances the decorative molded parts may also require secondary or value-added services after the molding process in which assembly, color printing, labeling or special packaging is required for the end product.

Aztec Plastics Decorative / Cosmetic services and or expertise offers our Customers unique advantages with over 50 years of experience with;

  • Advanced Decorative Applications
  • Specialized Material Selections
  • High-end Manufacturing Processes
  • Two-Shot Over-Molding Processes
  • Color Printing / Pad Printing
  • Texturing
  • Assembly
  • Specialized Packaging and Kitting Solutions
  • Labeling

In-Mold Decorating

In-Mold Decorating (IMD) or In-Mold Labeling is a highly unique and specialized method of injection molding which introduces a label or applique' into the injection molding manufacturing process. This label or applique' can be of a decorative or instructional nature that becomes a semi-permanent, imbedded component of the molded object.

The In-Mold Decoration process injects molten material or plastic resin into a specially designed Tool in which the label or applique' becomes an integral part or attribute of the plastic molded product.

The label or applique' as it is referred too, lends itself to be designed in a way that conforms to the contours and / or features of the product. This special Injection Molding process provides increased durability, strength, creative design, decorative and cosmetic options to the finished goods and / or products. The In-Mold Decorating process or IMD as it is referred too, can reduce the end cost of Customers products by eliminating Secondary or Post Product Operations such as pad printing and expensive adhesives.

Aztec Plastic’s In-Mold Decorating services and capabilities offer advantages like:

  • Consultative Interaction for Manufacturability
  • Specialty Material Selection assistance for Resins and Applique’
  • Automated Introduction, Placement and or Positioning of Applique' or Label
  • Manual and Semi-Automated options
  • Early Involvement Engineering for Custom Applique' or Label Design
